Subject Line: Tell Your Mind Better Things
Preview: You can cheat your mind so that you can have a better experience. It was 11.30pm, there’s a massive elephant 5 meters from our tent having a midnight snack. My heart started to race and I could freeze, pee or pray!!
I definitely did start to pray on repeat. But before that, I felt helpless, powerless, and that anything could happen. And my husband was right next to me calm as a cucumber. I was wondering, what’s wrong with me, why am I freaking out? What am I not understanding?
You see, your mind listens to what you tell it. And in that moment what I was telling my mind is “there’s a huge elephant right here, he can literally just trample this tent and us inside it, he’s angry and wants us out of here, he’s going to come at us right now”. Whereas when I asked my husband about it in the morning, he was thinking “awesome, there’s this beautiful majestic creature right next to us, happily having a snack and is just curious and calm”.
Now, had I told myself those same things that my husband had in his mind, I wouldn’t have been freaking out as much. Turns out, I CAN actually tell myself those things. Because fast forward a year to October 2020 we were yet again camping in the wild and an elephant comes to visit us at night. (Why do we always camp where the elephants want to snack?!)
Guess what happens this time? I’m smiling and trying to find my phone to take a video of this beautiful elephant that’s munching on palm fruits. By the way, not a great idea to try take a video when it’s dark and your flash automatically comes on, that is potentially one way to frighten an elephant! Don’t worry nothing happened I immediately switched my phone off.
The point is, I was telling my mind something very different this time and that was “this is amazing, we are here with this elephant who is doing his thing and we get to watch and experience this”. I admit, there was still a bit of praying, but the fear I had and the anxiety was not there. I got to experience a beautiful moment that will be remembered forever, AND is not scarred by fear.
So, are you telling your mind better things so that you can have a better experience? Believe it or not it all starts with Gut Health! Get ready, because the next WILDFIT Challenge starts on 19th August, 2024. Book a FREE Discovery chat and see if this Challenge is for you.

Flip the order of this: I definitely did start to pray on repeat. But before that, I felt helpless, powerless, and that anything could happen. And my husband was right next to me calm as a cucumber. I was wondering, what’s wrong with me, why am I freaking out? What am I not understanding?
