How coming out of a cult…
Led me to think outside the boxDid you know I grew up in a cult that God changed from the top down (so the cult doesn’t exist anymore), and coming out gave me the ability to make connections that can help people heal faster?
Losing my religion was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I learned that it was possible for me to be convinced I was 100% right when I was actually 90% wrong.
When it came time to decide if I was going to stay with my religious beliefs or adopt new ones or abandon God altogether, I sat down to read scripture. Before I read, I put everything I had been taught on a shelf in my head and asked God, “All I want is the truth, just show me the truth.”
I read for two hours and by the time I was done, everything on my shelf had been thrown in the poop pile…except for one thing.
Jesus. Jesus was the only thing on my shelf and that changed everything for me.
In coming out of the cult, I learned to hold onto things loosely so that I could always receive new beliefs, play with them, compare them to current beliefs, and decide which belief was better.
My yardstick was where the belief led. Did it lead toward love or toward fear?
I chose what led toward love.
Fast forward to 14 years into being a dietitian, I came across information that contradicted everything I had been taught about nutrition.
Because of my experience coming out of the cult, I was able to receive the information with an open mind and examine it along with my current beliefs and decide what was best for my clients.
Here’s what I know for sure. Science is all about asking questions and challenging answers. Nothing is settled, there is always room for growth and kinder solutions.
When we allow ourselves to receive new information, compare it to what we think we know, and then embrace what leads us towards love and away from fear, we can find healing solutions that honor our mind and body.
What if your diagnosis is just a collection of symptoms and what if disease is just dis-ease in your body, and what if there was a way to heal the dis-ease and overcome the symptoms without drugs or surgery?
If you are tired of feeling like crap, being gaslit by your doctor, and being told nothing is wrong with you because your labs are normal, let’s talk.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I feel like I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. Most women I run into really resonate with the feeling like crap and gaslighting, but there are some who don’t. So, lol, I guess I will just have to decide which group I want to work with. Maybe I can alternate my approach, but I don’t know if that’s great for consistency.

I agree with Kathy. I love it all – except that part just felt a little too on the nose. As someone with a lifelong chronic medical condition that was only diagnosed 8 years ago, I had many caring doctors who didn’t know what to do with me. They just didn’t have the information. Maybe you can acknowledge both situations so that someone doesn’t write themselves out of the story if they haven’t had the stronger negative experience.

The first part of your email is great, captivating story and helps a reader understand how you have an open mind. I’m finding it hard to relate the sentence “If you are tired of feeling like crap, being gaslit by your doctor, and being told nothing is wrong with you because your labs are normal, let’s talk.” to everything else you have said in your email. I get the paragraph above about being able to look through symptoms how that could relate to looking at it with an open mind and with new information. So perhaps consider using that to lead to your call to action to book a call?

Annette- this is great! I was with you util this sentence; If you are tired of feeling like crap, being gaslit by your doctor, and being told nothing is wrong with you because your labs are normal, let’s talk. Maybe something like if you have unanswered questions, are not being heard, feel like there are more options than what have been discussed by your medical professionals. Let’s talk, I know I can help.
