Myth: Less than 1% write-off’s is Industry Standard
FACT: Less than 1% write-off’s is BULLSHIT!

Fact: It is EASY to hide missing revenue because providers do not fact check
Fact: When the total revenue numbers are run; less than 1% is EXTREMLY unrealistic
Fact: Not only is it out of integrity, but I’ve already said this but in case you missed it; it’s BULLSHIT

While having a conversation with a provider at a networking event when she mentioned that her agency was doing fabulous, they had less than 1% in write-offs and that her biller had told her they were meeting industry standards.

I said that’s wonderful but is it true; how does she know that she has less than 1% in write-offs outside of her biller telling her that, where there reports or audits that showed nothing was being adjusted off.

If you are a small agency making 100K a year, less than 1% in write-offs is less than $1000.00…… unless you are NOT taking contractual adjustments, your patients are paying 100% of the time and you had NO BAD DEBT write-offs…. This is UNREALISTIC!

Now, if you are an agency that is doing an average of 2 million a year, 1% of that is 20k in write-offs. Is it doable, yes, is it realistic NO.

Here’s the thing, industry average for clean claims is 94-96%, if your biller is telling you that you have less than 1% in write-offs that means you’re at the 99% clean claim rate THEN almost 99% of all of your funds should be coming into your bank account. I can guarantee that is NOT happening especially once contractual adjustments and other write off amounts such as, billing errors, non-payments of deductibles or any other number of things are taken into consideration!

P.S – There is a difference between write-offs and adjustments!
