Hi y’all! I’ve been keeping a close eye on the WordPress “situation” that’s been ongoing for the past few weeks. Matt Mullenweg, the CEO of Automattic (the company behind wordpress.com and woocommerce, among other things), has been publicly battling with WP Engine, another “premium” host that competes directly with wordpress.com. As part of this dispute between them, Matt blocked WP Engine from accessing some wordpress resources, and he’s apparently suing them for a large sum of money for use of the WP trademark. The good news is that WP Engine has been able to provide their own services (it’s technical, don’t worry about it), so that customers (like the JBR brand!) are not impacted negatively.
We talked about the WordPress ecosystem in the last tech q&a session, which coincidentally happened the same day Matt initially banned WP Engine from wordpress.org, marking an escalation in their battle.
Next q&a session at the end of October, we’ll be talking about bots and how they can skew our metrics. Looking forward to it and hope to see you all there!
