So… I have been thinking about the AMA format. The idea we looked at on the last call was about finding time for your creative pursuits, and while folks on the call loved it, I’m just convinced it works.

The reason I’m not convinced it makes sense is that the answer is really simple, and pretty much always going to be the same, with only minor variations: you only need five minutes. That doesn’t feel like much of an AMA to me. It does feel like something people aren’t going to believe (no one ever does) and therefore like something they’re going to challenge and have questions about.

So… does it make more sense to have the AMA be about why five minutes is all you need? I feel like that’s also fairly simple and can be explained in just a few sentences, though it could also still be challenged and maybe something that could result in some interesting conversation when someone says, “But I don’t HAVE five minutes!” Yeah, you probably do, you just don’t think you do because this is a knee-jerk reaction, or you don’t want to try to find it because you’re so overwhelmed, which is a separate issue, or you’re scared to start your project–also a separate issues–etc. My only concern here is that digging into the underlying issues could balloon into something that goes beyond the scope of an AMA, and I’m not sure if that means it’s too big/where to draw that line.

What do you all think? If it sounds like I’m on to something here, I’ll draft something up and post it.

    • format the AMA you are thinking of in the format that Shannon provided. I am not following you without better understanding what you are going to post.

    • Honestly, I think either works. If you’re nervous about it getting out of hand, choose the second topic. In my experience (based on mostly other peoples AMAs since I’ve only done one–but that one fit the pattern) people don’t pay as much attention to the topic as we think they will.
