• Nitty Gritty Refocused! Would love feedback!

TO PARENTS WHO WANT THEIR TEENS TO LEARN REAL-WORLD SKILLS SO THEY ARE READY FOR LIFE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM:

    Would your teens benefit from:
    – Building a positive self-image?
    – Effective communication skills?
    – Strategies to develop resilience?
    – Managing his/her emotions?
    – Methods to set…Read More

    • You have already shared this, correct?

    • What part specifically would you like feedback on?

    • I’m not sure if this is something you talk about in your work, but what about a result of your teens becoming more independent? For example – managing their own homework, courseload, schedule etc. Maybe that falls under resilience, but I know many parents who feel like they can’t get their teen to take ownership of things. On another note – I am…Read More

But if you don’t want to backslide, SOMETHING needs to happen.

These are things my students tell me:
📆“When I’m out of my normal routine, I don’t know when to practice.”

    • Very nice! I like that you will be addressing each of these separately – builds curiosity and the need to keep coming back for more solutions.

    • I would say what is. “It’s not easy to keep up your chops when on break.” = “It is usually hard for students to keep up with practice during break because their routine is disrupted”

How to turn holiday schedule mess
    into holiday practice success:

📆“When I’m out of my normal routine, I’m always forgetting to practice.
My usual schedule doesn’t work any more–there just doesn’t seem to be a good time.”

It’s good to take time away from your instrument, but after a month (or even a few days!)…Read More

Keep up your chops over break
    without missing the festivities!

🙀“There are always other people around when it’s time to practice.”

So you’ve set a time to practice, but when that time comes…
your sister has her stuffed animals lined up on the piano,
your dad is trying to get you to taste his freshly-b…Read More

    • Another great post – this made me laugh!

    • Like this hook. “Keep up your chops” is specific and evocative. Focuses on the competence you’ve gained, rather than feelings of guilt and shame for not practicing.
