• I am terrified of rattlesnakes! So there I was, hiking in the bone-dry Texas canyon, keeping my eyes glued to the ground. All of a sudden, something caught my attention behind the bush up ahead. My heart stopped as I spotted an enormous bison blocking my path. A pissed-off bison, mind you… and it came charging at me! I quickly darted behind…Read More

    • My main question after this prompt, even being familiar with your story, is “What does a bison have to do with burnout?” Is that what you’re looking for, or did you want to provoke a more substantive burnout-related discussion?

    • I like this question as it is written: How a charging bison gave me a crash course on burnout.

I see where Ruth is coming from that is might be more thought provoking. I think you should experiment with this one and see what happens.

    • You have probably experimented by now… but what it tells me is that if a charging bison can teach you about burnout, I know I can ask you absolutely anything !

    • It is an amazing concept.
I would possibly open slightly differently.
“There I was hiking in the bone-dry Texas canyon, keeping my eyes glued to the ground for rattlesnakes. Frankly, I am terrified of rattlesnakes! All of sudden….”
While I love the line “what a bison taught me about burnout”, I get that a charging bison can teach you about str…Read More

I have been REALLY pulling back while I am mid-transition in careers to honor my own energy and my body, but I miss ya'll!

Here is my Turning Point Story I've drafted for this month's content. I'd love to have your thoughts.…Read More

  • (I also have a question re intrinsic motivation or extrinsic motivation – I feel that Shannon’s story – she knew she had to make a change from her insides. I feel like I had some emotions pre-C happening and Covid was the tip of the iceberg for me deciding to leave. I’m not sure I’ve “intrinsically” returned to teaching. – Does this make…Read More

    • Is teaching Tango something you love to do, or is it a job? is there something else that you want to do that will bring more joy? Does it truly matter whether you got there through internal or external circumstances? Maybe the internal signals were blocked by everything that was going on. Maybe other stuff didn’t work out because your heart wasn’t…Read More

      • oh such good good questions our lovely insightful wordsmithsman! i am so transparent!!!! I think I’m wondering all these things at the moment…. thank you thank you thank you as always…

        • You are most welcome! And know you are loved and supported as you are figuring it out!

        • Joel has total nailed what I was thinking. The emotions that you were feeling are more stronger than telling people you taught swim lessons. Here is a small tweak to help guide you as you take this to the next level. I am not sure if this is TRUE though. So, don’t use it if not. But as a guide of the next level.

I went to my parents’ home in A…Read More

    • I see what you mean with intrinsic and extrasinc. and I am nor sure it matters for that purpose. I d love to see a bit more of your background : what were you doing before, why did you have enough ? What is tango for you ?
Reading your story also makes me say that there is something, at some point, even tiny, that shows us the way (or actually,…Read More

  • The Turning Point for me was watching my mother slowly die of a terrible desease call dementia (May is still hard for me) and now my husband with cancer and lewy body dementia and the doctors fix? Take this drug or that drug.
I am an educator and research for me is a key to learning! I dove into Healthy living and decided the next step was Healthy…Read More

    • Great first draft. Do you feel you are emotionally ready to dive deeper to tell more of this story? There needs to be the “snake” or “roller coaster” to get that soul-level connection with people.

    • Powerful and moving situation! The story seems fragmented. If you’re not ready to dive deeper into the first paragraph, you can build on your story with Shannon’s steps and turning points. Being able to weave in “everyone needs a doctor” and “be their own advocate” to connect to the set-up is a bonus. If you’re like me, you have the experience but…Read More

    • I look forward to hearing more about your decision to become a full on health coach. did anyone try to “stop” you ? did you have an internal struggle with your decision?

      • Hi Daniela, No one has tried to stop me. The decision was very strong without a struggle. after watching my mother lose all aspect of her life with dementia, it killed me. Now watching the same thing happen to my husband is even worse. Dementia, cancer, liver disease – you name it! We can all learn how to better our health and lifestyles. I do…Read More
